Hello ladies, today we will be talking about my personal favourite healthy practice and that is overnight fasting. I implemented this into my daily routine around the age of 19 and I have never looked back. 

Now I am not going to say that it is an easy transition, it took me a few weeks to hold off the hanger long enough to comfortably eat my first meal of the day at 1.30pm. I went about this by gradually pushing my breakfast by an hour until it got to the point where my breakfast was now just my lunch; it may feel challenging in the beginning but once you have successfully added this into your routine it feels incredible. The health benefits that come with it are well worth the midday hanger, overnight fasting is a simple yet powerful tool for enhancing overall well-being and I want to tell you all about the general benefits that come from it

Overnight fasting, often referred to as intermittent fasting, involves a cycle of eating and fasting periods. Specifically, it means abstaining from food for a period, typically 12 to 16 hours overnight. This practice aligns seamlessly with the body's natural circadian rhythm, leading to a multitude of health benefits.

I know a lot of you will probably be thinking but 'breakfast is the most important meal of the day', well I thought so too! Although it feels great in the moment, this can quickly lead to over consumption and an unnecessary insulin spike

Initially, some may experience a dip in energy, especially if your body is used to relying on a meal in the morning but most people report increased energy levels once their body adapts.

I, for one, used to feel extremely faint and sick if I didn't eat breakfast, but after gradually teaching my body that I didn't need a smoked salmon bagel in the morning, I feel absolutely fine and generally not hungry, more energized and more awake.

 Can overnight fasting help with weight loss?

  • Yes, when combined with a healthy diet, overnight fasting can be an effective tool for weight loss. When your body has used up all of its energy stores, your body will start to burn fat stores for energy. 

 Can overnight fasting help reduce bloating?

  • Yes, allowing your digestive system to have a rest an can aid with digestion. I have personally found that after a heavy day of eating, that fasting throughout the next day makes my bloating feel and look significantly better.
